One Room Challenge: Spring 2015 ~ Week 1

SOOOOO Excited!!!!! It is One Room Challenge time again!!!!
This is my fourth time participating in the One Room Challenge. I am so glad that Linda at Calling it Home hosts this event every year. I love meeting the other bloggers who are participating, so please leave a comment, so I can learn more about you and check out your room. And if you are just here to be inspired by all the great room design creativity, welcome! Feel free to follow along by subscribing to my email list in the sidebar.
The best thing about the ORC for me is that I actually get a room done in my house. Here are past rooms I put together....
For this One Room Challenge I am going to work on the entry way of my house. I plan on redoing the carpet on the stairs, style and add artwork to the table that everyone first lays their eyes on when they walk in the house, and spruce up with new wallpaper and a few accessories the powder room which is just to the left as you walk in the door. Here are the before pictures of the space....

The one thing I do know is that the powder room will have many of the elements of the room in this picture. I just love it as it is definitely my style, and I will be constantly referring back to it as I pick out things for the powder room. Now what to do with the stairs is another story.....
We are big fans of #brass cage lights! Sarah Richardson is a ingenious interior designer. That blue is amazingly perfect!
I honestly have not done much advanced work yet for this room. I have some ideas swirling around my head, and I started a Pinterest Board to get some inspiration, but I don't have a set plan yet. By next week though I should have everything firmed up and a clear design for the space, so be sure to check back then!
And head on over to Calling It Home to see what everyone else is planning for their room.

Style the Kid's Bathroom

I am slowly trying to take the 80's out of our new house, and recently turned my attention to the kid's bathroom. We are going with yellow and red as the main colors (my kid's favorites) with a painted gray vanity.

This is what I picked out for the accessories. For once my champagne taste didn't get in the way (each item was under $50), and I was able to find affordable items that I think will look great in the space.

Share My Take Two: Design Post Interiors

If you are visiting for the first time, welcome. Feel free to look around and check out my blog where I list small improvements I make in my life in the areas of decorating, organizing and trying new things. Feel free to leave a comment...I love reading them. Or check out the sidebar, to subscribe by email or follow me on Pinterest, if you want to.

Today I am over at Design Post Interiors. I am so excited Beth asked me to participate in her Take Two Series.

Beth is such a talented designer. I love her style, and I am still swooning over the playroom she recently created for one of her clients.

In the Take Two Series, Beth asks about changes that were recently made in home and life.

It was easy to name my favorite change in my home: my bright green dressers I added to my bedroom. Learn more about that project here. And as a bonus, I talk about here how I organized the drawers with a pop of color and pizzazz.

The best change to my life was my goal to organize my house. I show here how I arranged the space under the sink in the bathroom. It's amazing how a little change can make such an improvement. I am now slowly working on the rest of the house. I know where a lot more things are located now than I did a few months ago, but there is still more to do.

The last question was about how you would spend $5. I loved that question, and it really made me think. It reminded me of a gift exchange I attended back near Christmas, where everyone brought a gift that was under $6. I was amazed at how creative everyone was with this, and pleased with all the great items I took home. Check out more about that here.

Be sure to come back tomorrow when I talk about the new addition to my dining room.

Share a Project: Pretty Organized

Today, I am very excited to be a featured reader on the great blog Pretty Organized. Check out it out here.

We recently moved into a new house. It has 1920's charm and a great location, but it is lacking in extra space. To make this house work, I need to keep it organized.

The first project I had to tackle was the storage in our bathroom. In the mad dash to unpack, at first, I just shoved everything that belonged in the bathroom into the cabinet under the sink. As a result, I had to spend time everyday trying to find what I needed. (I tried to take a good before picture, but things kept falling out.)

The first step was going through everything in the cabinet and throwing out what I didn't need. This was not easy for me, but I made myself toss whatever I had not touched in 6 months. It was surprising how much stuff fell into this category.

Then it was time to organize what was left. I decided because I didn't have much width in the cabinet under the sink, I needed to take advantage of the vertical space available. It was off to shop. I looked and looked for shelving that would fit in the space inside the cabinet, but I couldn’t find anything that was just right…I felt a little like Goldilocks. Then, it dawned on me that I could repurpose a shower caddie.

They were just the right size to fit in the cabinet. After purchasing two of them, I put them on either side of the cabinet. I now had a total of 4 shelves to arrange all the bottles and other small items I needed to store in the bathroom…one side for my things and the other for my husband’s items.

I still needed to fit larger items like a hairdryer, but those pesky pipes still posed a problem. I was able to fit a basket in the open space, and fill it with the larger items.

I love how well the project turned out. Now I can easily and quickly find everything I need. It was a great improvement to my bathroom.
