Pin Picks IX

Did you check out Calling It Home yesterday.? All of the link up participants showed off the ideas for their rooms. I can't wait to see what everyone does over the next 6 weeks! Each Friday, I will feature a few rooms as part of my Pin Picks Series.  Today, though, I am spending time with  the family because it is my kid's Spring Break. So in the interest of time, I am sharing the link to the One Room Challenge Linking Party Pinterest Board. Be sure to check out all the talent from both this and past ORC's. I will be back to my regularly scheduled program on Monday.

Pin Picks VIII

The weather here is still so cold, but recently there have been blue skies and sunshine. I am finally starting to feel like all this white stuff on the ground will finally melt away soon, and there will actually be spring. It's put me in a colorful mood today. Or it is more like I need to see color since it has been so long!

Here are a few pictures I found around Pinterest recently. All ways to bring a little bit of color inside your home where you can enjoy it, but still stay warm!

And I had to include this picture. Just love this blue and white striped coat from Kate Spade paired with the yellow skirt. Perfect for the early spring time.

Pin Picks VII

Sometimes you need new counter tops, but ripping everything out and replacing them with granite is just not going to happen anytime soon. A little refreshing might be all that is needed for now.

I had to share these recent pins I came across on Pinterest. All are different ways to DIY countertops on a budget. They would be a great improvement to any surface that needs a little pick-me-up.

If the counter tops aren't looking good anymore, just cover them up. Adding faux marble contact paper can make them look amazing.

Or put on an over lay of concrete. After these are buffed, the countertops will shine.

Paint is always an option to fake the look of more expensive counters. You can either make up your own pattern or buy a kit specially designed for this project. It is super affordable and easy to do. It is amazing how much these look like granite.

And it doesn't end with just a stone look. Using chalkboard paint opens up all kinds of possibilities.
Annie Sloan chalk paint counter top Q could be a good way to makeover the kitchen counters until we can do a major remodel?

Of course there are always counter tops that just can't be saved. Replacing them with wood would lighten up a kitchen and give it great style.

Pin Picks VI

I am reviving my favorite pins from Pinterest series. I have some great ones recently that I have to show off. They are great sources of inspiration.

Here are my Top Five...

1.

I am always making lists.  It's what helps me keep all my thoughts in order. Normally, they are on scrap pieces of paper or scribbled on a Post-It note. But wouldn't it be great to have everything written on one wall like this. And such a simple project to make.

2.

I want to add a little pop of color to the back of my bookshelves. For now I am leaning towards something like this. But I am still not positive, and will continue to look for inspiration.

3.

Did you hear that Linda from Calling It Home is doing One Room Challenge Now on Feb. 26th. Everyone who participated in the challenge back in the fall will be there to show off how their rooms currently look.  It will be fun to see what changed or stayed the same. I'll be showing my laundry room. Be sure to check it out. And if you have the time, the ORC Pinterest Board is a wealth of decorating goodness.

 4.

I love everything about this bookcase. Black and white with just the right balance of pink added in. A little sparkle from the brass. There is a lot going on here, but the way everything is styled keeps it looking interesting and not cluttered. Definitely a look to emulate.

5.

This is a great way to keep a list of all the meals you plan to make for several weeks. Thinking of my dinner plans on Sunday for the rest of the week (instead of the normal thing of 5 minutes after I arrive home in the evening) is one of my goals for the year. I could see something like this keeping me on track.

Check out more of my pins on my Pinterest Boards here.  And feel free to follow all my boards if you want to. I always find the best fellow pinners to follow that way.

Figure Out My Pinterest Personality

While going through my inbox, I came across an email from Pinterest listing the most popular pins from the past year. While the most cute critter picture was nice to look at, I found the boards from other country's the most interesting.

pocket doors

Beautiful living room.

Favorites from Finland

 Abstract geometric poster design

What I found interesting is that each country's board had it's own distinct flavor, style and personality. I bet an anthropologist could derive a great deal of information about the citizens of a country just based on what they like to pin.

It made me think about my own boards and what I decided to include. I love taking personality tests and while there is not a Pinterest Personality Quiz on par with the Myers Briggs yet, I still think you could learn a lot about me by looking at my boards. For example, pretending that I am an impartial observer, when looking at what I pinned I see someone who likes home décor with splashes of colors but leans towards blue in particular, who loves to look at organized paperwork, and admires other peoples DIYs...then again I might be a little bias.

Check me out on Pinterest here (or from the link in my sidebar) and let me know what you think. And feel free to leave a link to your Pinterest Page in the comments below. We could learn a lot about each other!

My pinterest boards are filling up, and I have some great pins to share this week.

I was literally swooning over this gorgeous wallpaper. Be sure to check out The Glam Pad as she makes over her powder room. If this is the start, I am sure the finished room will look amazing.

 Laundry and Cleaning Schedule
Since I am currently decorating my laundry room, cleaning is on my mind. How excited was I when I found this free printable from Mary Organizes. It's a list that you check off, and then wipe off to use for the next week. How great is that!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I've done a little decorating. But when I saw this, I realized I need to step it up a notch, and try something cool like this. So easy to do, and makes such an impact in the room. Check out the how-to at Life and Home at 2102.
